Dr. Rolf and Judy have raised five children together. During those 28 years, they had many opportunities to share their passion for food and hospitality with their community, friends, and family. This passion and new season of life has afforded them the opportunity to open their own restaurant.

Dr. Rolf Hissom has long had a passion for BBQ, and his wife, Judy and their son, Geoffrey, have been his most ardent advocates. So when the time came to turn their dream of owning a restaurant into a reality, Judy stepped up to take the lead. She’s promoted their BBQ at scores of community events over the years, so developing Dr. Rolf’s Barbeque restaurant in downtown Muskegon was second nature for her. With their son, Geoffrey, managing the restaurant, and their delicious craft BBQ menu, their success in Muskegon skyrocketed. As their reputation grew throughout the Lakeshore, they made the decision to bring Dr. Rolf’s signature smoked meats and sides to the Grand Haven area so more of West Michigan can enjoy Dr. Rolf’s quality, craft barbeque!

Dr. Rolf’s is located in Grand Haven’s historic 110-year-old Grand Haven Armory at 17 South Second Street which is fast becoming THE place to be for up-and-coming entrepreneurial enterprises. It houses restaurants and a brewery. We’re pleased to be part of the renaissance of this historic location.
Our History
Dr. Rolf has provided medical care to the Muskegon area for decades, practicing his passion for BBQ during his off time. After years of sharing his unique blends of flavor with friends and family, he and his wife Judy purchased a building in Muskegon’s historic downtown area.
They renovated and converted the beautiful location into a restaurant and developing a diverse menu of unique and savory dishes, the doctor opened his doors and the rest is a history of great success. Now, Dr. Rolf’s is bringing his unique craft BBQ and award-winning dishes to beautiful Grand Haven, in the Grand Haven Armory.

Position Description: Dr. Rolf's Barbeque in Grand Haven is looking for a full time assistant manager/line cook. We are offering a competitive salary, shared tips, health benefits, paid vacation and a 401 K plan. Candidates must have a driver's license and be willing to work evenings and weekends.
Having been a part of the rebirth of downtown Muskegon, Rolf and Judy Hissom are delighted to be part of the resurgence and renaissance of Grand Haven’s historic Grand Haven Armory into a new place of commerce for the Grand Haven community. They’re excited to open Dr. Rolf’s here in “America’s Happiest Seaside Town”.
